Webinar Description

Our new data management tools in the Hub are launching soon, and we’re hosting a live training to help every team get comfortable before Spring 2026 ceremonies begin. These tools will help you upload, manage, and correct your graduate data to ensure accuracy at your ceremonies. This workflow is new for everyone.

Whether you’ve been using Tassel for years or are newer to the platform, this session will walk through how the updated tools work, what’s different, and how they’re designed to make managing graduate data faster and easier. Attending this training will help your team start strong, avoid surprises, and feel confident heading into ceremony season.

Webinar Q&A

Q: We were planning to launch our Spring 2026 site on 02/01...would you recommend delaying launch until at least 02/03 to upload our graduate data under the new dashboard management workflow?
A:  Yes, we recommend that you launch your spring website after 02/3 to ensure your data is run through the new data cleaning tool, but you can launch earlier as well. The beauty of the tool is that if you want to set up tags and predefined values for your graduate data later you can still utilize it to catch errors after upload, not just with upload

Q: Are certificates in the predefined values?
A: You can choose! You can make certificates a required graduate data field and add predefined values if you wish!

Q: Will this update also include a bug fix of the Tassel site when viewed from a mobile device?
A: We are actively working on mobile updates but since it is not a popular way to access the Hub, these will come out later in the year. All the upcoming updates are best viewed on laptop/desktop devices.

Q: Will we still receive an email with the import report?
A: Yes, you will still receive an email with the status of the import!

Q: How are graduates who are assigned to multiple ceremonies handled when updating data?
A:  A graduate can be imported into multiple ceremonies at once, and their GDFs will go through data cleaning for each ceremony separately. If they have invalid data for one ceremony but not the other, the graduate will be created, added to the ceremony with valid data, but a pending grad will be created for the invalid ceremony

Q: What happens if there is a duplicate student? Are they still uploaded?
A: If a student is present in the data more than once, the data cleaning tool will flag this for you.

Q: For those of us with graduates taking part in two ceremonies at our institution, will the import be flagged or the graduate be flagged as a duplicate? Will this prevent the upload from being successful?
A: If a student is present in the data more than once for a ceremony, the data cleaning tool will flag this for you. If a grad is added to multiple ceremonies and appropriately assigned to the ceremonies in the data, that will go through normally.

Q: Is it still possible to upload one list with graduates for all ceremonies using ceremony IDs or do you need to upload each ceremony's graduates separately?
A: Yes, you will still be able to import one file to multiple ceremony IDs. The new importer UI should make it more clear that this is happening with the new update

Q: Are we still able to schedule uploads via ftp?
A: Yes, you can still upload your data via SFTP and that will still be run through the data cleaning tool. Graduates that have issues will be in the pending graduates section on the Hub.

Q: Will the predefined fields need to be updated for each semester or will some of this information carry over from the previous semester?
A: Yes, the pre-defined values will be copied over when the ceremony is cloned into new ceremony periods.

Q: Will there be any other updates to Tassel between Feb through May?
A: No other large updates will be coming to the Hub or graduate website in that timeframe.

Q: How can we verify a student's display name will be printed on the cards?
A: Work with your CSM to ensure you have a custom view that lets you review preferred names submitted by graduates in their registration.

Q: If a graduate had bad data and moved to pending graduate, do email triggers take effect once the data is cleaned and saved?
A: Yes, that is exactly correct.

Q: For the predetermined fields, do we have to enter in every major we have for the Major field?
A: In order to fully utilize the data cleaning tool, then yes you should include all majors. Any inconsistencies will be flagged by the data cleaning tool.

Q: To clarify - we can still use user-generated info (preferred display name) to display on slide, print on cards, and record? We don’t need to get that info prior to upload.
A: Yes, that’s correct!

Q: We've already uploaded our data, so will our records error out until we create pre-defined values?
A: You will be able to add/update pre defined values after upload and the data cleaning tool will flag any issues after the fact.

Q: When importing with test graduates. Those test graduates cannot be account administrators too, correct?
A: That is correct. You can use a fake email though when making a test grad!
